What is hypnotherapy?
This is quite simply therapy performed while you are experiencing a nice relaxed state of hypnosis. The therapy itself will be tailored to your own individual needs and could include suggestion work, regression therapy, active visualisation, parts therapy, and various NLP techniques (such as the fast phobia cure) etc.
What can hypnotherapy help with?
It can help with many things, including;-
overcoming fear of public speaking
overcoming phobias (spiders, flying etc.)
stopping other habits such as nail biting and hair pulling
confidence and self-esteem issues
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a natural state of mind that we all drift in and out of on a daily basis. Whenever you become engrossed in a movie or a book you are in a state of hypnosis. When you are driving your car on 'autopilot' you are in a light hypnotic state. Every time you drift off into a daydream you are in hypnosis.
In the therapy room you are guided into a nice state of deep relaxation where your unconscious mind becomes more open and receptive to positive beneficial suggestions and other therapy techniques.
You will remain in control and fully aware at all times.
What if I can't be hypnotised?
Almost everyone can be hypnotised. The only people who can't be hypnotised are those with a very low IQ and who aren't able to follow simple instructions. Some are able to go into a very deep state although they are still aware and in control; others remain in a much lighter state of hypnosis. How deep you go is entirely up to you because you are in control. As far as the therapy is concerned it doesn't matter how deep you go into hypnosis.
In actual fact, if you did little more than close your eyes we could still do some very beneficial work.
Is mindfulness the same as hypnosis?
There are similarities between mindfulness and hypnosis although, stricly speaking , they are not the same thing. Hypnosis (hypnotherapy) is used to help people to move forward towards their goals, partly by becoming set free from the past. Mindfulness is only concerned with the here and now; it's a state of being rather than doing.
That's not to say that mindfulness isn't useful because it can be very helpful in managing stress and anxiety.
How many sessions would I need?
This depends on what the problem is. Many phobias and habits can be resolved in just one or two sessions. Deeper emotional problems typically require between three and five sessions.
What is coaching?
The purpose of coaching is to help you be the best you can be. It is not about telling you how to live your life.
Coaching can help you to decide what you want to do with your life (e.g. if you are at some sort of 'crossroads' in your life).
Also, if you play sport, it can help you to perform at your best (i.e. peak performance coaching). In this area I have worked with athletes and other sports people up to and including World and Olympic level.
The number of sessions varies from person to person; some only need one session while others may need an occasional top-up.
What about training courses?
Our course is a fully validated practioner course in Clinical Hypnosis and Mind Coaching. The course consists of 10 weekends in the classroom and home study (450 hours in total). We believe our course is one of the best and most advanced in the UK.
